Twilight Series - Stephenie Meyer

It's four books of romance, heart ache and vampires. We can debate writing style and vocabulary, but I won't put you through that.

If your child hasn't read this, but wants to, here's the basics. Girl meets boy, boy is a vampire, they fall in love and there is a few complications along the way (see: standard love triangle and star crossed romance)

Warnings:
  1. Once you hit book 3, there are many references to sex. Bella wants to have it, Edward wants to wait, but Bella is the narrator, and thus keeps pushing for sex.
  2. Book 4, Bella marries young and gets pregnant immediately. She gives birth in a very violent way that is explained - Edward rips open her stomach so the baby is born before turning her.
  3. Unhealthy relationship alert! Book 2 has Bella depressed when Edward leaves and can't get over it. Make sure your child doesn't take this to heart.
Overall: It's popular, your daughter/son will probably want to read it, and get sucked into the writing because of the style. Just make sure your kid is in high school before you let her/him read it. You have no idea how many times I had to tell mothers of ten year olds that the books discussed sex before they would listen.

If your child liked his check out: The House of Night, Marked, or Meyer's other book The Host.

The Basics

That's what you're here for, the first post and all. I'm here to set out the lay of the land, explain my credentials, and tell you this isn't some con.

This isn't a con.

I'm a 19 (and a half!) year old who knows her stuff. I've worked in a new and used bookstore, I've run book clubs for elementary and middle school kids, I've even won the Name that Book contest in third grade in my school, and most of all, I'm a complete book-a-holic. Keep your chocolate and hand me a good story.

I'm going to tell you what's up and coming, what books you shouldn't read (or let your kids read), and throw in a few things about a bookstore that I'm going to open in ten years. By the age of thirty, I will open a new and used bookstore somewhere, even in the age of technology and e-books, I'll open it.

At least, that's the plan.
